Bunny Mellon

We were thrilled to be given a private tour of Rachel Lambert "Bunny" Mellon's home and gardens, nestled within the lush and rolling hills of Upperville, Virginia.
At D. Porthault, we knew Mrs. Mellon to be a passionate and loyal collector of our linens, with an eye towards the colors and decorative motifs that historically identify our brand. But when we viewed her vast collection of printed and embroidered bed and table linens ~ and then saw her shelves upon shelves of printed terry towels ~ we were breathless! Perhaps the Oak Spring Garden Foundation that cares for Mrs. Mellon's home and gardens expressed it best in their introduction, "The Fabrics of Life: The Mellon Collection of Linens", when they wrote:"For ... 'Bunny' Mellon, a woman of exquisite taste and lifelong collector of beautiful things, fabrics were a lasting fascination that gave her special pleasure. For much of her long life ... the opportunity to meld luxury with exquisite design through everyday linens was an ... endless attraction."One feels the grace and warmth of Mrs. Mellon reflected in the women and men who care deeply about preserving her legacy, and who are now maintaining Oak Spring Garden. We encourage all to visit ~ and to be transported!
