Muguet ~ Lily Of The Valley

Muguet ~ Lily Of The Valley

D. Porthault & Helena Simon ~ Sharing a Love of Flowers Reading Muguet ~ Lily Of The Valley 2 minutes

Muguet was among a handful of prints, including Coeurs and Trèfles, created by D. Porthault's Paris atelier to honor one of their clients. Inspired in the early 1950s by Grace Kelly's love of lilies of the valley, D. Porthault designed Muguet. Soon, Muguet became Grace Kelly's favorite print and a classic of the House.

At her April 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco, Grace Kelly bypassed a traditional large bouquet and chose to carry a small cluster of lilies of the valley, held together by ribbons of silk. Since then,  D. Porthault's Muguet has been forever tied to the legacy of Princess Grace.

Because lilies of the valley bloom in early spring, the flowers symbolize anticipation, encouragement, and the joy of new beginnings. Their tiny, bell-shaped blossoms nod gently downward, nestled among broad leaves ~ a classic motif of humility and innocence. Rooted in French tradition, the lily of the valley is also believed to bring good fortune and prosperity.

While Muguet has always held a prominent place in D. Porthault's library of over 2,000 prints, the House has recently re-engraved this very personal design for a collection of bed and bath linens ~ available in Princess Grace's signature green coloration, as well as in blue and pink.

We welcome you to indulge in the cool, crisp luxury of cotton linens, and to be embraced by nature's eternal optimism. D. Porthault invites you to experience Muguet ~ a delicate yet powerful reminder of life's enduring beauty and resilience.
